melissasantos (via fireland):

out of all those kinds of people
you got a face with a view
i’m just an animal looking for a home
share the same space for a minute or two
& you love me till my heart stops
love me till i’m dead.

“this must be the place (naive melody)” has been my favorite song since, well, forever. anyway, when i was a little fat kid, i would listen to it on repeat & cry because i thought that no one would ever say this to me. now that i’m older, i’m scared that someone will.

My favorite Talking Heads song? “(Nothing But) Flowers.” There are two parts I love, the first because it’s pretty:

Years ago
I was an angry young man
I’d pretend
That I was a billboard
Standing tall
By the side of the road
I fell in love
With a beautiful highway

And the second because it rings more true to me than the heartbreaking emotion-porn of “This Must Be The Place”:

This used to be real estate
Now it’s only fields and trees
Where, where is the town
Now, it’s nothing but flowers
The highways and cars
Were sacrificed for agriculture
I thought that we’d start over
But I guess I was wrong

Yeah, yeah, to finding anyone to love you forever. Humans aren’t built for forever. Even if you find the person who drives you least crazy, the odds that you’ll fall right into the ease and safety in “This Must Be The Place” are, well, minimal and ephemeral. But nostalgia — that’ll still be around, even after civilization’s gone to wherever human inventions go when they die.
